About Chibal

Chibal is a Mexico-based production company working across opera, theatre, and cinema, supported by national arts funds and strategic partnerships with leading cultural institutions.

In collaboration with the National Opera, Chibal premiered Federico Ibarra's El juego de los insectos at the iconic Palacio de Bellas Artes. The company is currently developing Yanga, a new opera by Gabriela Ortiz, adapted from a musical work originally commissioned by Gustavo Dudamel for the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Chibal also produced a revival of Rentas congeladas, regarded as Mexico's first musical, written by Sergio Magaña with original music by Francisco Gabilondo Soler.

Theatre

Chibal has collaborated with major public cultural institutions including Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), and the Festival Internacional Cervantino to produce works such as Historias de la Ciudad de México by Emilio Carballido, Al teatro con el diablo, Una luna para los malnacidos, and El dolor debajo del sombrero.

Its avant-garde production Bozal received international recognition at World Stage Design (2022), underscoring the company's commitment to formal experimentation and immersive staging.

Film

In cinema, Chibal produced the short films Labios y plumas and Catarsis, selected at the Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, Mórbido Film Fest, and New York International Film Festival.

Its first feature film, Iguana Like the Sun, produced by Matthias Ehrenberg and Khotan Fernandez, premiered at the 30th edition of the Raindance Film Festival and began an international festival run across the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
